To keep our volunteers, participants, and community safe, we don't take referrals or publicly announce our bailout dates. Instead, we regularly review Dane County Jail records to identify Black people who are being held before trial because they cannot afford cash bail.
When we have the funding and people power, we organize bailouts throughout the year. We review each case individually and prioritize people who are most impacted by incarceration, including caregivers, young people, people with disabilities, women, LGBTQ+ people, and people experiencing mental health challenges.
We believe freedom should never depend on how much money someone has. Every person we bring home is one small step toward dismantling a system that criminalizes poverty and disproportionately harms Black communities.
